In case you needed a reminder, action movie icon, Donnie Yen has some serious martial arts skills, which is why fans can't wait to see him play a Force-sensitive rebel fighter in the upcoming blockbuster, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The legendary actor, who celebrated his 53rd birthday over the summer, recently posted a throwback video on his Facebook featuring his younger self kicking butt in an awesome training montage. The Ip Man and Rogue One star can be seen doing everything from slick, choreographed fight scenes with his pals, to insane high-flying, multi-kicks on heavy bags.
"Martial arts and martial films were not considered fashionable in my younger days," Yen wrote in the post's caption. "But today you are not so cool if you don't know some!"
The clips should excite Star Wars fans, who will get to see plenty of these kickass techniques when the actor and the rest of the Rogue One crew make their debuts in the sci-fi franchise's newest installment, later this year.
Yen's role is particularly interesting, as he's playing a blind sympathizer to the Rebellion named Chirrut Imwe. The character won't wield a lightsaber like other Star Wars Force users, but he does have a pretty sweet bo staff, which he used to clear out a team of Stormtroopers in the various trailers that have been released.
As a fan of the UFC and practitioner of a variety of martial arts styles including boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, Muay Thai, taekwondo, wrestling, wushu, and tai chi, Yen is bringing a lot to the table as an action movie star. It's no wonder why Imwe doesn't need to be a Jedi in order to take on the Empire.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16.
