Floyd Mayweather has been retired since September of 2015, but that hasn't kept his name out of people's mouths. Especially Conor McGregor. The two big words in MMA right now are "money" and "fight" but when it comes down to it, the only real money fight is against Floyd Mayweather. The cash he brings in makes everything else look like peanuts.

visited ESPN today to talk about his career and combat sports in general, and inevitably, Conor McGregor came up. According to Mayweather, he's talked to McGregor about the fight and it fell through, but the potential payouts for both fighters were staggering.

Here's what a potential Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor payout would look like:

  • Mayweather would get $100 million guaranteed
  • McGregor would get $15 million (Mac has made $9.5 million in disclosed purses over his UFC career)
  • Floyd was willing to negotiate a split of the back end regarding PPV buys, which could add tens of millions to each fighter's payday

Floyd has had up and down PPV numbers, but Conor McGregor has hovered well above 1 million PPV buys for his last four fights. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao brought in 4.6 million PPV buys at $100 a pop, and you have to think this fight would have the $100 price tag on it, which means a massive, massive increase to everyone's bank account.

This one fight could make Conor McGregor, already the highest-paid UFC fighter, more money than he's ever made in his MMA career. It's no wonder he wants it. Why get punched in the head for a few years to make what you could against Floyd Mayweather in a few minutes?

So will this ever happen?

If Mayweather wants it and Conor wants it, what fight fan wouldn't want to see this happen?
