Of course the wrestler-turned-actor has a few duds on his resume, but like his pro wrestling pals, Bautista is starting to become a bona fide action superstar, thanks in no small part to his breakout role as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. And with the releases of Avengers: Infinity War and Blade Runner 2049 on the horizon, expect to see more of Bautista on the big screen.
Check out our picks for Dave Bautista's top 5 movie roles below.
5. Kickboxer: Vengeance
The Kickboxer series recently received a much needed, MMA filled reboot with last year's Kickboxer: Vengeance.
While the film still features the legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme, #BJJ black belt and up-and-coming actor Alain Moussi has taken over the role of Kurt Sloane. As for Tong Po, originally played by Michel Qissi, that role went to the beefy Bautista, who once again proved that he knows how to bring the action as the fan favorite villain.
Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like he'll be back for the sequel, Kickboxer: Retaliation, which will feature Mike Tyson, Roy Nelson, and a slew of other combat sports stars.
Continuing the tough guy trend, Bautista got to flex his acting muscles with some of the best in the business with 2015's Heist.
While the film wasn't a darling among critics, it did give the ex-wrestler a chance to rub shoulders with the likes of Robert De Niro, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Kate Bosworth. In the flick, Bautista approaches Morgan to pull of a casino robbery, as The Walking Dead star's character is in need of cash to pay for his sick daughters medical bills.
Things get pretty intense for Bautista and company in this shoot 'em up thriller.
3. The Man with the Iron Fists
After performing in a few low budget flicks and taking a stab at MMA, Bautista received a big breakout role in the form of RZA's The Man with the Iron Fists.
Playing the morally ambiguous Brass Body, Bautista got to kick major butt in the flick alongside the likes of Lucy Liu and Russell Crowe. The former wrestler showed with The Man with the Iron Fists that he can hang with A-listers, despite being relatively new to the acting game.
His name is Bautista. Dave Bautista.
The wrestler-turned-actor's second biggest role to date came in the form of the latest James Bond installment, Spectre.
Loosely based on the villainous Donald Grant from the 1963 film From Russia with Love, Bautista's Mr. Hinx is just as much of a thorn in the side of Daniel Craig's 007. The ex-WWE star earned a ton of praise for this globe-spanning role, although the film itself received mixed reactions.
1. Guardians of the Galaxy
Without a doubt, Bautista's best movie role to date has to be as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
The joke-challenged superhero turned out to be one of the biggest highlights from the first flick, and judging by the trailers, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 should feature even more Drax goodness. Who wouldn't want to see him slice up an intergalactic octopus?
Hopefully the alien hero will finally get his wish and face-off with Thanos is next year's Avengers: Infinity War.
