After Demetrious Johnson's UFC on Fox 24 performance where he thoroughly dominated and submitted Wilson Reis, it's hard to argue that he isn't the greatest champion in UFC history. He has dominated opponents arguably to a higher degree than even Anderson Silva and has tied the middleweight's record for consecutive title defenses. But UFC president Dana White took it a step further by saying that Demetrious Johnson is the greatest MMA fighter of all-time.
"He's already the #1 P4P fighter in the world and he strives to get better each time. And he gets better each time," said White.
Demetrious Johnson was well aware of his accomplishment tonight and he let his feelings be known during his post-fight Octagon interview.
Anderson Silva had an amazing run through the middleweight division, Georges St-Pierre will always be recognized for his dominance over the welterweight division and Jon Jones has been almost unbeatable, when he's allowed to compete in the Octagon, but there's no other champion that has reigned over his division with the dominance of "Mighty Mouse."
With his options at flyweight dwindling, the time will eventually come for Johnson to reach out to higher divisions for challenges. It is for this reason that it's important to celebrate Johnson's greatness as it's happening and not after.
No one in this sport is immune to loses, and the odds of Johnson losing before his career is over are fairly strong, but that doesn't diminish his current achievements. With that said, it's time for the entire MMA community to join Dana White in reveling in the presence of the G.O.A.T., Demetrious Johnson.
