Cris "Cyborg" Justino is about to star in her first ever UFC main event, but she can't seem to escape the hopes of fans calling for a fight with Ronda Rousey.
“Before, when she was the champion, she said she wanted to fight me," Cyborg said while appearing on UFC Tonight. "She said 'come to 135'. Maybe we can fight at 140. You can’t be selfish. This fight is not for me and her, it’s for all the fans. All the fans are waiting for her.”
The superfight has been talked about for years, ever since their days in Strikeforce, but it's never come to fruition. Cyborg claims Rousey wouldn't budge from the 135 pound weight class that she was champion of, a weight that seems impossible for Cyborg to make.
Now that Rousey is no longer the bantamweight champion, she hopes that negotiations might be different this time around.
“For me, the belt is important," she said. "But it’s more nice making superfights for all fans to watch.”
Rousey hasn't fought since her shocking loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 almost a year ago. She went into hiding shortly after the fight, but is rumored to finally be making her return to the Octagon by the end of the year.
Cyborg faces Lina Lansberg this Saturday at UFC Fight Night Brasilia, where she will be fighting at 140 pounds.
