#Bellator's debut in Madison Square Garden just got even bigger following the announcement that commentators Mike Goldberg and Mauro Ranallo have signed multi-event broadcast agreements that start on the night of #Bellator180 and #BellatorNYC.
The pair will join a broadcast team that will include Jimmy Smith, Jenn Brown, Chael Sonnen and Brendan Schuab on fight night. Speaking via a press release earlier today, Bellator CEO #ScottCoker spoke of his delight for his new team.
“Mike Goldberg and Mauro Ranallo are two of the best in our business and I couldn't be happier about them joining the Bellator family,” Coker said. “In addition to June 24, we look forward to working together to make future Spike broadcasts even more exciting for our fans as we add further depth to an already-exceptional broadcast team."
Spike SVP, Sports and Specials Jon Slugger also stated: "The addition of highly-regarded announcers Mauro and Mike to our fantastic lineup of broadcasters, and our first-rate production led by Scott Fishman, further demonstrates our commitment MMA fans and expanding the global Bellator brand."
Goldberg joins Bellator having called his last UFC event on December 30, 2016 at #UFC207: Rousey vs. Nunes. He had been in the role of the UFC's play-by-play commentator for over 20-years, but was let go by the UFC's new owners WME-IMG when they decided not to renew his last deal.
The former UFC man will be joined by Ranallo, who is one of the most well respected veterans on the combat sports circuit. Having commentated across everything including MMA, boxing and kick boxing, Ranallo signed as the lead announcer for WWE Smackdown in January 2016, but left the position last March after mutually agreeing to part ways with the company amidst a bullying scandal involving John "Bradshaw" Layfield.
Thankfully, better time are ahead for the pair and they will make their Bellator debuts on July 24 when they call the action of #Bellator180 on SPIKE, before then going on to commentate Bellator's first ever pay-per-view event.
It's sure to be something special.
