Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is often described as a bunch of A-holes who like to get into fights, which would also be a pretty apt description for pretty much any mixed martial arts promotion.
Since the intergalactic superhero teams seems to have a lot in common with today's fan-favorite fighters, we decided to cast some of the UFC's biggest stars as members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. What better way to celebrate the release of the franchise's upcoming sequel this weekend?
Check out our picks for UFC stars as Guardians of the Galaxy heroes below.
Star-Lord - Cody Garbrandt
Except for the collection of ink, Star-Lord and Cody Garbrandt surprisingly have a lot in common.
Like the UFC bantamweight champion, Peter Quill knows how to handle himself on the wrestling mat. Actor Chris Pratt actually wrestled in the same high school tournament as heavyweight veteran Josh Barnett, if you can believe it.
Not only that, but both Garbrandt and Star-Lord have a penchant for breaking out their favorite dance moves in a middle of a fight.
Gamora - Amanda Nunes
Usually sweet yet always itching for a fight, Amanda Nunes would be perfect at the green-skinned Gamora.
The women's bantamweight champ is one of the nicest people in the world outside of the Octagon, but cross her and you're in for a world of hurt. The same could be said for Zoe Saldana's Gamora, who has no qualms slicing and dicing her way through her foes.
Rocket Raccoon - Nate Diaz
Rocket Raccoon loves to talk smack and never follows the plan, so of course he'd have to be played by Nate Diaz.
The Stockton bad boy may not know how to fly a spaceship, but he can definitely run his mouth like the mangy mammal. Diaz also rarely follows the UFC's promotional plans, which is a very Rocket thing to do.
Groot - Gegard Mousasi
I am Gegard!
Middleweight veteran Gegard Mousasi usually doesn't say much, well that is unless he's unhappy with his bosses, but he always comes through inside the Octagon. Like Groot, Mousasi has a tendency to decimate his opponents, who often underestimate his skills.
Let's just hope Groot's next battle in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 goes a lot smoother than Mousasi's last fight.
Drax the Destroyer - Stipe Miocic
A heavyweight who likes to beat the crap out of people, yeah, Stipe Miocic has got the whole "Destroyer" thing down.
While Drax already has an MMA connection thanks to actor and former #WWE star Dave Bautista's foray into the sport, the UFC heavyweight champion would also be a good fit to play the hero. Like Drax, no matter what you throw at Miocic, he always seems to come back with a vengeance.
Yondu - Donald Cerrone
Mean mug? Check. Hanging out with rowdy fighters? Check. Southern drawl? Check. Occasional mohawk? Check again.
Donald Cerrone was born to play Yondu, the blue-skinned leader of the Ravagers, as both guys are always ready for a last minute battle and never fail to come through in the clutch.
All that Yondu is missing is a cowboy hat.
Nebula - Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Like Gamora, Nebula is a no-nonsense, daughter of Thanos who never backs down from a fight - especially if she hates her foe, so obviously Joanna Jedrzejczyk fits that bill perfectly.
The UFC strawweight champ loves to get under her opponents' skins before serving up brutal beatdowns in the Octagon. All Jedrzejczyk needs is a fresh buzz and a robo-arm, and she'd have the Nebula look completely down.
Mantis - Michelle Waterson
The newest addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy, Mantis is a happy go-lucky team player who's also a master of the martial arts.
Strawweight phenom Michelle Waterson has a similar personality and skill set, just without the telepathy and antennas.
