We were still breathless from the Alexey Oleynik finishing the first ever Ezekiel choke in a UFC fight last Sunday when along came a second improbable Ezekiel choke from a mounted competitor on Friday. Two blue belt competitors at the IBJJF European Championships Friday locked up in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu match (below) that started out normally and ended in shocking fashion.
One man locked in a gi Ezekiel choke from inside the full guard of his opponent. Soon, however, he was swept and mounted.
Like Oleynik, this mounted grappler also didn't seem concerned with his inferior position since he had his arms and hands exactly where he wanted. Unlike Viktor Pesta, however, the grappler on top in this match recognized the trouble he was and postured up, then stood completely.
His neck was still wrapped up in forearm and gi sleeves, though, and the Ezekiel choke kept doing its blood and air depriving work. The tap came soon, and the choked competitor stumbled to the ground, nearly unconscious.
We don't know what's going on, you guys, but we know the Ezekiel choke is so hot right now.
