Bigfoot Silva entered Russian soil losing 5 of his last 6 fights in the UFC via stoppage, and now, he's lost another one, despite "knocking out" his opponent in the third round. It was Russian hijinx, and it's a damn shame. After dropping Ivan Shtyrkov, the referee stepped in as an annoyed Bigfoot wondered what the hell was going on. He had just won, or had he?
It could have something to do with the organization he fought in, which also robbed Jeff Monson of a win a few years ago. That said, we also saw Russian officials gift Fedor Emelianenko a decision win over Fabio Maldonado last June, so you never really know what you're going to get except the unexpected. (Which is now expected????)
Here's the full fight:
This was his massive opponent, who gassed out almost immediately.
Here's Bigfoot's massive punch that dropped Ivan Shtyrkov. After this, the referee gave him an astonishing amount of time to recover for some reason. Did the ref think this was boxing, or was there something more nefarious going on?
What a weird fight...
