Today marks the beginning of an era, as well as the end of one. Fresh off the heels of the UFC's new women's featherweight division, Bellator crowned Julia Budd as their new women's featherweight champion when she defeated WMMA legend Marloes Coenen by TKO in the fourth round. After the celebrating by her opponent was said and done, Coenen officially announced her retirement from fighting.
Marloes Coenen had been fighting for 17 years, literally paving the way for belt she could not win at Bellator 175. Without this former Strikeforce champion, there would be no Ronda Rousey, no Miesha Tate, and probably no Bellator featherweight division to begin with. While she didn't go out on a high note, her accomplishments will always be honored.
