When you gotta make weight, you gotta make weight, and instead of trying to cut a few more precious ounces of water weight, there's always another option for certain people that can pull it off: Don't cut weight, cut the hair!
Invicta FC's Samantha Diaz cut off a good chunk of her locks ahead of weigh-ins for Invicta FC 20, and it got her to the strawweight limit. That's a good amount of hair. It's probably weighs... 4-5 ounces?
We've seen fighters do this before. Most famously, Daniel Straus cut off his dreadlocks in order to make weight for his Bellator 112 title fight against Pat Curran. His locks probably weighed a good amount more than Samantha Diaz's, but you can't argue with the results. Let's take a quick look back:
Perhaps this is a lesson to all fighters: Have a contingency plan in place for all weight-cutting issues. Basically, grow your hair real long, then whenever you're in need of a quick shave and a haircut to make weight, you're ready to go. Yeah. That makes sense, right? Right.
